Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of IT Infrastructure, the Systems Administrator is responsible for the reliability, availability and serviceability of the University server and network storage infrastructure. Primary functions include installing, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting all university servers and networked storage utilized in the university environment. This position is also responsible for the configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of university IT backup strategies and maintaining the security and integrity of this data.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible position.
Manages the installation and routine maintenance of server and storage hardware
Manages the installation, configuration, performance tuning, and monitoring of university storage infrastructure
Manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server operating systems and applications, including regular updates and patching.
Responsible for daily tasks related to server administration and optimization: including programming of automated scripts for maintenance tasks using PowerShell of other automation tools.
Responsible for configuration of fault tolerance and disaster recovery for university server/storage infrastructure, including backups, repair, remediation, and restoration.
Responsible for documentation of university server/storage environment, including hardware, applications, licensing compliance, and daily procedures.
Oversees configuration and monitoring of server security settings as appropriate to ensure prevention of unauthorized access to server resources.
Assists Network Administrator as needed to help administer networked systems including but not limited to DNS, DHCP, VoIP, Wireless
Recommend to the UTS leadership short- and long-range plans for the upgrades, improvements, and purchases related to the server/storage environment necessary to maintain high quality technology services.
Responsible for recommendation, implementation, configuration and enforcement of appropriate security policies related to our server and storage infrastructure in order to maintain the security and integrity of university data pursuant to plans developed in consultation with the UTS and university leadership.
Provides consultation to the UTS leadership regarding security matters related to the server/storage infrastructure and environment.
Works collaboratively with the database administrator, network administrator, and entire infrastructure team to ensure core infrastructure meets university needs.
Assists with disaster recovery and business continuity planning in relation to the server/storage infrastructure.
Manages and supports academic and administrative client-server applications as assigned.
Maintains confidentialities as appropriate.
Serves in an on-call capacity responding to USF technology emergencies.
