Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of clinical laboratory diagnostic tests in hematology, immunology, microbiology, urinalysis and chemistry to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Indiana University Health Center. This position includes equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, reagent preparation, quality control, quality control review, coordinate and oversee the chemistry department, test and instrument troubleshooting, proficiency testing, training, and mentoring new employees. The position requires a high level of technical skill, advanced cognitive abilities, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and one year of internship experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent accrediting body upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications
Five years of experience in a clinical laboratory and recent phlebotomy experience.

Computer skills, instrument operation/maintenance, experience with LIS/EHR systems and experience writing procedures and quality improvement activities.

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate, move about the work environment, and position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
