Quantum technology holds the potential to help solve some of society's greatest challenges and it is one of our most promising growth opportunities to create new markets and new applications in Australia. Therefore, CSIRO Manufacturing business unit is currently seeking a driven and experienced RF Electronics Engineer to join our collaborative and dynamic ‘Quantum Systems Integration’ team based in Lindfield NSW, to expand our quantum research capability and work towards ensuring Australia remains at the forefront of this new technology. The team combines multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering capability and uses world-class infrastructure to partner with industry in the development of innovative products and processes that allow Australian manufacturers to be globally competitive and environmentally sustainable.

 

As the RF Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for developing quantum sensing technologies for use in a variety of cutting-edge applications. You will be actively involved in the design, construction, programming and documentation of electronic control and support systems for various research projects & prototypes, including their circuit design, testing & validation, managing procurement of subsystems, documentation & reporting, and participating in field trials.

Your duties will include:

  • Applying specialist expertise to solve complex problems within a discipline or across a diverse range of projects.
  • Taking responsibility for activities such as developing and delivering novel technologies, developing and implementing project plans, analysing, validating and reporting results within the constraints of various project plans.
  • Extending existing scientific knowledge of experimental design via achievements, which facilitate the development of new perspectives in a field, or fields of, research and/or technology.
  • Addressing problems and making critical choices between options that require knowledge of the most recent scientific and/or technological developments or novel methodologies.
  • Playing a key advisory role in decisions concerning scientific and/or technological direction.
  • Identifying and adapting quickly to changes in client or project needs & changes in the external environment.

 

Location: Lindfield, NSW

Salary: AU$120K – AU$140K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A tertiary degree in Electronics Engineering, with minimum 4 years of relevant post-qualification work experience or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to design RF signal chain components such as low noise amplifiers, ultra-broad band bias tees and impedance transformation, etc.
  • Strong experience with RF system designs such as I/Q receivers, direction finders, radar, etc.
  • Ability to work from first principals when faced with unusual design challenges. 
  • Ability to apply specialist RF systems expertise to solve complex problems within a discipline or across a diverse range of projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of data logging & graphical data reporting, and the ability to use schematic capture and PC board layout software (Altium Designer preferred).

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be an Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
