Do you have a background and passion in web development and backend systems? We are seeking a driven Web Developer/Engineer to join our dynamic CSIRO Land & Water team and support important environmental projects.

 

‘CSIRO Land & Water’ business unit work across the domains of land, water, ecosystems and communities to deliver outcome-focussed research, and we deliver innovative solutions to the complex challenges that arise from the demands and impacts of human activities on the environment. New technologies and environmental modelling play an essential role in our research.  

 

Joining the specialised ‘Knowledge Delivery Team’ within the business unit, you will bring your knowledge and experience in web development to contribute to large environmental projects, which includes collaboration with a range of internal stakeholders and external industry experts. Your expertise in designing and developing web applications using modern frameworks and platforms, and ability to test and ensure that deployed applications meet security requirements, will play a vital role within the project team.

Your duties will include:

  • Designing and developing web applications that meet project and end-user requirements.
  • Undertaking systems and component testing as required.
  • Ensuring that deployed applications meet security requirements.
  • Supporting other members of the development team as required.
  • Participating and contributing to planning projects and accepting responsibility for the scheduling and completion of major parts of projects, including allocating and directing tasks where appropriate.
  • Adapting and/or developing original software in support of existing and further research, promptly addressing where methods may not be defined, and initiative is required in seeking new approaches to meet experimental and/or technological needs.

 

Location: Canberra, ACT or Melbourne, VIC

Salary: AU$88K – AU$100K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience in information technology, computer science or software engineering.
  • Demonstrated significant software development experience with web technologies (i.e. ReactJS, Typescript, Javascript, NodeJS) to develop and deploy research quality applications.
  • Proven track record of implementing using CI/CD best practice approaches and tools (e.g. AWS CodeBuild/CodePipeline, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Github Actions).
  • Demonstrated experience with software engineering development processes (i.e. unit testing, integration testing),  and tools, such as Agile, Jira, Git, Bitbucket, and Github.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team across locations.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this position, you must be an

  • Australian or New Zealand Citizen;
  • Australian Permanent Resident; or
  • Australian Temporary Resident, currently residing in Australia, with an existing valid visa and unrestricted work rights for the duration of the term (at least until end of 2024), and no requirement for visa sponsorship.

 

Appointment to this role is subject to provision of a national police check and may be subject to other security/medical/character requirements.
