Job Description

Summary

The Research Technician will oversee their own research project that is relevant to the lab's studies on diabetes, pancreatic cancer, or neural tube defects. It may be of their own choice but will likely be an offshoot of an extant lab member's project. The technician will work heavily with mice and/or cells, bioinformatics, and microscopy, but be independent in choosing the methods by which to perform their experiments. The technician will report weekly to the Principal Investigator and about once a month to the lab on their progress towards their research goal.

Job Duties

  • Performs in vivo and in vitro experiments.
  • Maintains mouse colonies and/or maintains cell lines.
  • Works on genotyping mouse colonies and/or cell lines, euthanizing mice. Collects murine tissues.
  • Performs murine surgery and collects murine embryos.
  • Uses cell and/or murine tissue for experiments 
  • Processes collected murine tissues and/or cells.
  • Performs immunofluorescent staining on murine tissues and/or cells.
  • Performs Western blots on murine tissues and/or cells, imaging via fluorescence and/or confocal microscopy.
  • Performs flow cytometry on murine tissues and/or cells and performs RNA sequencing.
  • Ensures the lab's reagents are stocked/made and stored appropriately and to their knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous lab experience is a plus.
