Position Summary:

The LVN Supervisor for the Medical Foundation Community Practice assists in managing the department under the direction of the Practice Manager. The LVN Supervisor is an experienced licensed LVN with a significant amount of knowledge and professional/technical skills related to the oncology patient population. The LVN Supervisor will demonstrate a level of proficiency in directing patient throughput and a proven ability to use department policies and processes to guide decision-making to timely resolve patient care issues. Also demonstrates a keen ability to consistently communicate to staff in a competent, interpersonal and culturally sensitive manner, mindful of their role of patient advocate. The LVN Supervisor evaluates individual employees/staff performance as well as coaches, mentors, and takes corrective action and discipline when appropriate.

This position directly supervises:

  • LVN within the department/unit.
  • Medical Assistants within department/unit

Essential Functions:

Staff Management

  • Ensures staff competence and promotes professional practice standards through education and monitoring including all clinical tasks, sterilization, and preparation for procedures.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise within scope of licensure
  • Creates a fair and consistent staff schedule and assignment decisions
  • Assists employees with day to day operational decisions as applicable to patient care
  • Assures staff are current on all licenses, certifications, and competency to provide care
  • Facilitates the orientation and ongoing development and education of staff
  • Supervises and lead staff in collaborative relationships within and outside of department
  • Makes staffing decisions to assure all staffing teams provide adequate coverage
  • Works with the Director to develops and implement staff education activities; Coaches staff and partners with the Director to counsel staff on behavior and clinical issues.
  • Effectively communicates with all customers and team members to meet organization goals and customer services expectations.

Patient Care and Clinical Quality

  • Assist in establishing standards for patient care to assure patient care is timely, safe and effective
  • Responsible for satisfaction of physicians, patients, staff and other customers with care and service
  • Support and facilitate critical thinking and judgment of staff
  • Follow up on problems/requests made by staff, physicians, NP, etc on an ongoing basis
  • Assists with nursing visits on a as needed basis
  • Gain an overview of all patient and department needs during all shifts
  • Manage and prioritize workloads using a standard approach that supports effective and efficient use of resources
  • Effectively communicate and transfer information with all customers and team members to meet patient and organizational goals and to provide customer satisfaction
  • Performs functions of Medical Assistant and Receptionist on an as needed basis to support the delivery of patient care services.

Budgetary and Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Works with Practice Director to develop solutions and systems to meet/exceed budgetary growth and targets.
  • Monitors and audits the purchasing of all clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborates with others to identify capital and equipment needs in the assigned departments.
  • Identifies improvement opportunities and cost containment for the clinics and makes recommendations for implementation of improvement initiatives
  • Maintains staffing levels within the budget

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 2 years of experience as an LVN and 1 year in a lead/supervisory capacity.
  • Previous supervisory or program coordination experience preferred in surgery and/or oncology.
  • At least 1 year of experience in primary care clinical setting.
  • Experience performing lab test and processing lab and diagnostic study orders.

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • Current and valid California LVN License
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • IV Certification preferred
  • Urology experience preferred
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in goal setting, budgeting, operation and human resource management.
  • Ability to work effectively with department staff, physicians, clinicians, and patients.
  • Must exhibit effective communication, organization, and decision-making skills.

As a condition of employment, City of Hope requires staff to comply with all state and federal vaccination mandates.

Job Status: Full-time

Hours: Monday through Friday – 8am – 5pm
