Job Description

Conducts research as part of an interdisciplinary team investigating fundamental mechanisms for enhancing energy-conserving chemistry using biological, chemical, and bio-hybrid catalysts in biomimetic confinement. Responsibilities include recombinant protein expression, protein purification, protein covalent modification with spin and optical probes and characterization by a portfolio of biophysical techniques. Works independently with only general direction and independently develops technical solutions to experimental plan completion. Contributes to project milestone completion, coordinates research activities and deadlines with the project team, and exercises significant impact on program results.

Position Requirements

  • PhD in botany, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or related field

  • Complete understanding and expertise in the application and technical problem-solving with a wide-range of molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysical techniques

  • Works independently on recombinant protein expression, protein purification, protein modification with spin and optical probes

  • Works independently with only general direction input from the research team of the assembly of nano-bioreactors

  • Demonstrated expertise in small angle X-ray scattering experiment design, data collection and analysis at the Advanced Photon Source

  • Demonstrated expertise in sample preparation for electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and data analysis

  • Expertise in protein and cofactor circular dichroism spectroscopy

RD 2: Bachelor’s and 5+ years of experience, or Master’s and 3+ years of experience, or Doctorate and 0+ years of experience or equivalent
