Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Designing and conducting experiments using numerous scientific approaches, including Arabidopsis mutant characterization, CRISPR/Cas9 creation of mutants, plant immunity analysis, protein analysis, RNA analysis, PCR and RT-qPCR. Scientific approaches will not be limited to approaches listed above, but will depend on the types of scientific questions being addressed and the availability of other technologies. Existing knowledge of various techniques is required, and preference will be given to persons possessing prior experience on Arabidopsis-Pseudomonas syringae interactions, extracellular pyridine nucleotides, and protein analysis.
Presentation of results and conclusions. Participation in the generation of proposals and manuscripts resulting from data generated in the laboratory will be required. Additionally, participation in laboratory meetings will be expected. Participation in scientific meetings will also be expected.
Preparing written reports of research findings for publication in coordination with the faculty and presenting papers and abstracts.
Data analysis and interpretation of results. Incumbent will be expected to analyze the results of experiments performed and provide interpretations that are based on the context of current scientific literature. This will require an extensive knowledge of literature published related to the laboratory's current research focus.
Identifying new research projects and formulating new hypotheses in conjunction with the faculty, which requires reading related literatures and making new discoveries during experiments.
Advising graduate student assistants and undergraduates is required. This includes (but not limited to) guidance and teaching of laboratory techniques and assistance in interpretation of results.
Specific laboratory duties such as assigned lab responsibilities.
EXPECTED SALARY:
$48,000-$50,000/year
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. in plant genetics or related field, prior extensive lab experience on Arabidopsis-microbe interactions, extracellular pyridine nucleotides, and citrus.
More than four years of postdoc research experience on extracellular pyridine nucleotides, plant immunity, and citrus as well as high-impact publications on extracellular pyridine nucleotides.
