Job Description

Summary

Provides responsible technical assistance in support of a research project by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to microbiology and genetics. Primary tasks that include are preparing bacterial growth media, chemical solutions, and glassware for use by others in the lab. The applicant should be well-organized, conscientious, and able to adapt to continuously changing work demands.

Work Schedule is flexible requiring 20 hours/week between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. 

Job Duties

  • Retrieves, washes, dries, sterilizes and redistributes laboratory glassware.
  • Retrieves, refill the tip boxes, tube boxes.
  • Operates autoclave and dishwasher.
  • Perform routine and maintenance for machines (PH meter, MediaJet/Mediaclave).
  • Prepare standard solutions and culture media.
  • Assists in collecting data and maintaining records.
  • Maintains a well-organized lab kitchen.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Has good organization and time management skills.
  • Has the ability to perform basic calculations (dilutions, scaling up recipes, etc).
  • Has ability to follow recipes and protocols with high accuracy.
