Summary
The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, TX, and Baylor College of Medicine are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Research Assistant/Health Science Specialist with the VA Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Center for Innovations (COIN) in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt). We are seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a research assistant for multiple federally funded healthcare improvement and implementation grants. The role of the health science specialist will be to coordinate and carry out the day-to-day activities of the project. The ideal candidate will have some prior knowledge of health services research and is a highly motivated detail-oriented individual who can work independently as well as in a team. Prior experience working with VA research is a bonus.
Job Duties
- Interviews, screen and recruits patients for study; explains process and procedures to educate participant
- regarding the research study.
- Maintain regulatory documents and records for research studies.
- Collect patient data and maintain research databases.
- Schedule research participants for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, CT scans, and other studies specific for the research protocol. Retrieve and submit tests results to appropriate party.
- Manage research budgets, resources, and timelines, optimizing efficiency while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Prepare research reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication and dissemination to share findings with scientific community and key stakeholders.
- May correspond with patient throughout study.
- Orders supplies and equipment.
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in behavioral science, public health, basic science, health administration or another science-related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Must be able to work independently and proactively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both written and spoken English.
- Previous experience in an academic setting.
- Expertise in MS Office, Excel, Powerpoint.
- Experience in healthcare improvement.
- Expertise in RedCap and/or other data collection and database management tools.
- Prior qualitative experience is a bonus.
