Your primary role will be as a Build Engineer with a secondary focus on software development. Our program supports the United States Space Force in its nuclear detonation detection and monitoring missions.

The USNDS system relies on space-based sensor payloads that transmit data to satellite ground systems for mission processing. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our highly talented team, with a strong interest in designing, developing, building, and releasing large-scale software and infrastructure for high-consequence, high-rigor, remote sensing ground systems.

On any given day you may be called to:

  • Support developers and testers from code compilation issues through to a deployed operational system.
  • Develop, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for large-scale software systems.
  • Design and implement enhancements to automation for a more ideal DevSecOps process.
  • Implement and test software to address complex national security challenges.
  • Partner with architects, other developers, and integration test teams to ensure implementation of critical requirements.
  • Effectively communicate technical assessments to multiple stakeholders.
  • Propose and participate in internal research and development efforts.
  • Mentor other members of the team.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience working with large-scale (1M+ SLOC) code bases.
  • Experience with Git or comparable configuration management tools.
  • Experience with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented analysis and design.
  • Proven successful experience as a build and/or release engineer.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills leading to solid experience with problem identification, root cause analysis, and implementing solutions.
  • Experience with unit test frameworks.

About Our Team:

The USNDS Ground Program Office is responsible for the project management, systems engineering, and operations of the satellite ground systems that support the US capability to monitor the earth\'s surface, atmosphere and surrounding space for nuclear detonations. This department serves as one of the technical interfaces to the Space Force for projects within the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) Ground Program, which include the Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) and the Ground NDS Terminal (GNT). In addition, the team works closely with Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) operators to support real-time missions, resolve and analyze anomalies, and define ground system requirements.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
