Job Description

Summary

The Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Research Coordinator (SRC). This role will be carrying out responsibilities of the coordination and administration of clinical trials, with a strong emphasis on SWOG (formerly the Southwest Oncology Group). The SRC will work with the PI and other Research team staff and will coordinate daily activities of research protocols, which include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate data collection, documentation, organization, and study data maintenance, storage, and reporting.

Job Duties

  • Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for study; explains processes and procedures to educate participants regarding the research study within the scope of practice. (20%)
  • Collects patient information, processes documents, and enters subject information into SWOG/sponsor database. (15%)
  • Consults with SWOG team members to ensure study time points are met. (5%)
  • Oversees and maintains accurate source documentation, patient records, drug documentation, as well as drug/device accountability reconciliation per study protocol; monitors documentation for quality and accuracy. (10%)
  • Schedules research participants for tests and procedures, such as laboratory tests, X-rays, and other study-specific tests and procedures per study protocol. (10%)
  • Communicates and collaborates with the Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center research staff. (5%)
  • Supports and trains other Urology Study Coordinators on the related processes. (5%)
  • Monitors SAEs and checks for any potential issues for each subject, such as deviations; notifies the appropriate oversight committee of SAEs. (5%)
  • Performs all duties necessary to set up conference calls. (5%)
  • Reviews CTSU website to ensure that all SWOG documents are posted correctly. (5%)
  • Adheres to departmental guidelines and workflows. (5%)
  • Independently manages time and prioritizes tasks while keeping others on the team informed. (5%)
  • Orders study supplies and equipment as needed. (5%)

Other

  • May perform Venipuncture (blood draws), EKGs/ECGs, obtain vital signs on study participants.
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures per study protocol.
  • May correspond with patients throughout study as part of the study coordination activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
  • SWOG and other relevant Research certifications and licenses.
  • SWOG study experience.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a part of a team.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and standard clinical procedures and protocols.
  • Experience training and mentoring team members.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for a short period and capable of standing for extended periods of time.
  • Other languages are an asset.
