GENERAL INFO
• The Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts School of Music at the University of Oklahoma (Norman, OK) seeks a dedicated teacher and researcher of music theory.
• Rank: Assistant Professor of Music – Music Theory, Rank: Renewable.
• Start date: August 16, 2025.
JOB DESCRIPTION
• Teach undergraduate courses and graduate seminars (3 2 load) to music majors.
• Advise MM theses and serve on MM and doctoral (DMA and PhD) committees, as needed.
• Collaborate with the theory area in all departmental activities, and serve on various committees as assigned by the Director of the OU School of Music.
• Teach courses in the undergraduate core curriculum, Analysis of Tonal Music (a graduate course), and one graduate seminar per year on a topic pertaining to the candidate's expertise.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Earned Ph.D. in Music Theory or a Ph.D. in Musicology with a theory concentration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Record of scholarly accomplishments: publications and presentations at conferences.
• Evidence of teaching experience in music theory.
• We welcome candidates whose research areas complement those of the existing faculty. Examples include, but are not limited to, aural skills pedagogy, global musics, histories of music theory, Indigenous musics, jazz, music and media, music cognition, and popular musics.
• Our music theory area is committed to fostering excellence in teaching and scholarship in both new and existing areas in music theory.
