Job Description

The Homer L Dodge Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, Oklahoma, is seeking a candidate to fill an Instrumentation Research Scientist position in the Condensed Matter Physics group which is  part of the multi-disciplinary Center for Quantum Research and Technology (CQRT). The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of experimental faculty,  postdoctoral scientists, and graduate students with expertise ranging from ultrafast spectroscopy to pulsed laser deposition and molecular beam epitaxy, offering instrumentation and experimental design support.

 

DUTIES

·         Provide maintenance to cryogenics, vacuum and laser systems

·          Assist research groups with new equipment installation

·         Contribute to the development of dedicated electronics and circuitry for power systems, equipment control and monitoring, cryogenics and vacuum systems

·         Coordinate with the machine shop and electronics shop on new installations that require upgrades of existing infrastructure.

·         Troubleshooting-house as well as externally developed equipment

·         Salary range: 50,000-75,000 depending on qualifications and experience

Required Education

·         Bachelor's degree and at least four years of experience

Equivalency Substitution

·         a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.

Department Preferences

·          MS or PhD in Physics, Materials Science or Engineering

·         Evidence of hands-on experience with equipment maintenance

Skills

·         Background in electrical engineering, physics, vacuum technology, or similar disciplines. 

·         significant hands-on technical experience, preferably related to machine shop, clean room or high vacuum technology repair

·         experience with LabvieW and SolidWorks or similar CAD software.

·         Experience in project planning and implementation of a proactive maintenance program is highly preferred.

·         Must be willing and able to work in a culturally diverse atmosphere and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

·         Salary range: 50,000-75,000 depending on qualifications and experience
