Job Description

Summary

This Research Technician II (RT-II) position in a growing lab will primarily entail assisting with the planningand execution of research experiments. The technician will have extensive direct interactions with the PrincipalInvestigator and have ample opportunity for learning and growth. Responsibilities are mainly focused on generating experimental data. Related responsibilities includes but are not limited to are managing mouse colonies (including genotyping as needed), conducting experiments, ordering supplies, and interacting with other labs and core facilities.

Job Duties

  • Conducts laboratory experiments with the appropriate degree of graded responsibility under the supervision of the PI.
  • Conducts experiments in the laboratory that includes but are not limited to production and isolation of extracellular vesicles, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue imaging, and mouse surgeries.
  • Performs animal colony maintenance and husbandry, that includesgenotyping or postoperative care when needed.
  • Conducts literature searches and summaries to aid in planning of laboratory experiments.
  • Interacts with core facilities for processing of tissue or other experimental samples.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes experimental data into graphs and presentation format and assists with publications.
  • Assists with finding and ordersequipment that is best suited for conducting the proposed research.
  • Participates in lab maintenance activities that includes keeping a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Documents experiments in laboratory notebooks accurately that would allow others to successfully replicate experiments. The position is in a new and growing laboratory and the specific responsibilities may shift over time as the lab grows.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tissue culture, and be comfortable handling and working with mice is desired.
  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory for two years is a plus.
  • Has the laboratory skills that includes animal colony handling and maintenance, generic laboratory skills (pipetting,sterile technique, safely using centrifuges and other commonly used equipment), ability to critically read the scientific literature, tissue culture skills.
  • Has the ability and willingness to learn new skills. Has high degree of resourcefulness and ability to take initiative.
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills as they will have extensive interactions with vendors, core facilities, other labs, and members of the growing lab.
