What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a dedicated R&D Manager to lead our Communications & Electrical Systems Technology Group. In this position, you will oversee a diverse team responsible for the design, development, and integration of command, control, and communication technologies utilized in specialized transportation security systems.

Our mission is to serve the nation by providing engineering services that span from concept to sustainment of embedded systems. We leverage our expertise in software and electronic technologies to enable communication and control capabilities, ensuring the safe and secure transportation of high-value assets.

We conduct research and engage in development activities in areas such as high-consequence software systems, custom embedded circuit design, wireless network communications, intelligent power conditioning and distribution, navigation systems, and sensors.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

  • Oversee and coordinate mission deliverables, program and project plans, budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements to ensure successful execution of R&D initiatives.
  • Leverage organizational expertise to identify and engage potential beneficiaries, collaborators, and customers, fostering existing sustainment efforts and attracting new strategic projects that enhance the organization’s technical presence across the laboratories.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with internal and external customers and partners to support collaborative efforts within the laboratory and the Nuclear Security Enterprise.
  • Collaborate with peer managers and senior leadership to ensure the coordinated execution of program objectives, operational strategies and deliverables.
  • Enhance team capabilities through effective hiring, mentoring, professional development, and performance management, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

External partners include the Office of Secure Transportation (OST), the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Kansas City National Security Center New Mexico Operations (KCNSC-NMO), and various supply chain vendors.

Internal partners consist of organizations within the Transportation Security group, ND systems and testing organizations associated with the Integrated Surety Architecture (ISA) program, the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT), and an expanding network of collaborators focused on new RF and Wireless Communications initiatives.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$157,100 - $267,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant STEM field plus 4 years relevant technical experience.
  • Two years of experience in management, program management, or leadership within a technical environment, with a focus on program development and execution activities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Two or more years of management experience in an R&D organization.
  • Ability to partner effectively with a management team on a large program.
  • Ability to effectively motivate employees, manage personnel issues, and resolve conflicts

About Our Team:

The Communications and Electrical Systems Technology Department is responsible for the development and integration of command, control, and communication technologies used in specialized transportation security systems. We conduct research and development activities in the areas of high consequence software systems, custom embedded circuit design, wireless network communications, intelligent power conditioning and distribution, navigation systems, and sensors.

Major programs supported by the department include the Safeguards Transporter (SGT), development of a new high security system called the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) and an advanced concept surety programs called Integrated Surety Architectures (ISA). Robust security protection for transportation systems face many unique challenges, and requires exhaustive investigation and analysis of sophisticated system attacks and the associated development of countermeasures to defend and protect against such attacks. The use of modeling and simulation tools assists in the investigation, exploration, and development of new design approaches, algorithms, and design of experiments to validate system capabilities.

Security Clearance:
