City of Hope will be opening our second academic hospital on the Irvine Campus – the only specialty cancer hospital in the area – completing the continuum of care in Orange County and we are seeking a Director, Nursing to ensure efficient operations over our ICU, Hematology, Medical Surg Oncology and ETC Units.
TheDirector, Nursing will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of specific service lines through the application of advanced competencies in communication, health care knowledge, leadership, professionalism, and business skills. The Director, Nursingeffectively partners with hospital leadership, medical staff, and other departments to create a center of excellence for their specialty service and to meet the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals.
The Director, Nursing provides direct leadership for all direct reports who comprise their specialty service line and/or area of responsibility. The Director, Nursing is a standard bearer and holds leaders and staff accountable for the delivery of safe, quality care and services through effective communication, fiscal accountability, and employment of transformational leaders, instilling an accountability-based practice setting. The Director, Nursing serves as sponsor for performance improvement; inspires others to seek opportunities to grow and improve their performance and successfully applies lean and evidenced based practice to ensure nursing outcomes are achieved. The Director, Nursing models the way by fostering exemplary skills in attaining effective teamwork and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- This role has the degree of independence required to achieve operating results consistent with approved operating plans, objectives, and policies.
- Responsible for goal development, planning, execution, and evaluation of goal achievement. Develops short, mid and long-term goals with plans to facilitate/guide goal achievement that are consistent with the mission and values of the City of Hope.
- Effectively communicates with patients, visitors, management staff, departmental personnel, physicians, peers and other City of Hope personnel. Participates in required meetings. Demonstrates effective problem solving, negotiating, and conflict resolution skills. Promotes teamwork.
- Serves as role model, motivates, mentors, and inspires management staff and department personnel; demonstrates flexibility and impartiality when dealing with others.
- Performs annual employee performance evaluation and motivates employees to perform in an efficient and professional manner; recruits and maintain the staff necessary to carry out the functions of the departments.
Your qualifications should include:
- Master’s degree in nursing or in related field. If Master’s degree in related field, must have a Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current California RN license or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- 7+ years nursing experience with a minimum o 5+ years in nursing leadership.
- Lean, Six Sigma or other quality related courses.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building.
- Knowledge of the health care environment.
- Knowledge of Title 22, DHS, and Joint Commission Standards.
- Current BLS certification from American Heart Association.
- National Certification to be acquired within 12 months of hire.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $79.29 - $132.41 / hour
