About the role:

We are seeking a Research Assistant to work on research projects involving electrochemical and optical assay and sensor development, sensor and microfluidic fabrication, and integration into novel diagnostic platforms. Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will learn the microfabrication techniques used within the group in order to contribute to the Microfabrication of devices with low sample volume consumption, rapid sample-to-results and high-throughput. Specifically, microfluidics and the integration of multiple and multiplexed sensitive detection schemes into one device are the main challenges that will need to be addressed. In this role, you will have an opportunity to learn new skills, develop Electro-chemical assays in collaboration with senior staff, and contribute intellectually to the project within a team- oriented environment with other scientists and staff at the Institute.

Position Description

What you'll do:

• Contribute to the design and microfabrication of the devices, the development of bioanalytical assays and the testing of the platform.
• Design and troubleshoot experiments independently with guidance from academic staff
• Benchmark the performance of the bioanalytical sensing system against more conventional assays such as ELISA, PCR etc.
• Perform laboratory support activities such as ordering supplies and performing lab maintenance.
• Participate in the preparation of manuscripts and patent applications.
• Under the supervision of staff, present data and conclusions at meetings within the Wyss Institute.

Basic Qualifications

What you'll need:

• Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• A minimum of 2 years of lab experience involving the development of biosensors, microfluidics, and basic biology techniques such as ELISA is required. Advanced Degree may count towards years of experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Desirable Skills:

• Advanced degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Biochemistry or Bioengineering preferred.
• 3 or more years of experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with microfluidics electrochemical sensors or is strongly preferred.
• Candidates with previous experience in biosensing, microfluidics design, microfabrication (e.g. photolithography, metal patterning, soft lithography, rapid prototyping), electrochemical sensing (e.g. amperometry, potentiometry, impedance), optical sensing (e.g. colorimetry, SPR, fluorescence, chemiluminescence), bioassay development (e.g. antibody, DNA or enzyme based), mechanical engineering (3D design, printing), and/or electrical engineering are strongly preferred.
• Ability to work well independently and to collaborate with a multidisciplinary group is essential.
• The candidate should be proficient with personal computers and applicable software packages (Microsoft Office, CAD, Solidworks).
• Good written and oral communication skills are essential.
• The candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and able to take initiative.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
