Summary
The Section of General Internal Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking an experienced investigator for Vice Chief of Research for the Section.
Applicants (MD or PhD) must have demonstrated scholarship in a relevant area, a record of mentoring, collaboration, and extramural funding as well as a committed vision to the growth of a robust research program. The successful candidate will receive support to develop and implement a funded research program within the Section including protected time and recruitment funds.
With over 250 faculty, the Section of General Internal Medicine is a large, diverse academic group dedicated to excellence in clinical services, educational leadership, scholarly efforts, and service to the community. Section members work as hospitalists, outpatient primary care physicians, pharmacists, and public health experts across the greater Houston area at seven affiliate sites including Baylor Medicine, CHI-St. Luke's, Harris Health System, and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The Department of Medicine has several research dedicated units including the Section of Health Services Research, Section of Epidemiology and Population Sciences, and Cardiovascular Research Division. The Department houses five research training programs supported by federal grants. The total grant funding for FY24 exceeded $120M, of which $70M from NIH.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and prioritize strategic short- and long-term goals and objectives within the research mission
- Oversee recruitment and retention of research faculty
- Provide mentorship to junior faculty members in defining and developing their research careers
- Establish metrics for research and scholarship within the Section
- Represent the Section at relevant department and college committee meetings
- Maintain investigator-initiated funding and a record of high-impact publications.
