Job Description
College/Department InformationThe Immunology Center of Georgia (IMMCG) represents a new initiative by the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University to leverage the ability of the immune system to combat disease. The IMMCG will accomplish this by assembling teams of biomedical researchers with strong records of scientific innovation and technological development. The IMMCG will be co-directed by world-class immunologists Drs. Catherine `Lynn¿ Hedrick and Klaus Ley, both of whom have made major discoveries linking immune cells to specific mechanisms of disease. The goal of the IMMCG is to produce novel and effective treatments for conditions that heavily impact the communities of Georgia and the United States. The new center is aggressively recruiting faculty and staff to lead projects focused on cardiovascular disease, obesity and metabolic disorders, autoimmune and infectious disease, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
Job Summary
The candidate will conduct complex bioinformatics analyses of high-dimensional immunology datasets, including CyTOF, bulk RNA-seq, CITE-Seq, and scRNA-seq.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
COMPUTATIONAL ANALYSIS: Assist in complex computational analysis of high-dimensional immunology datasets, including CyTOF, bulk RNA-seq, CITE-Seq, and scRNA-seq.
PREPARATION: Assist in manuscript preparation for publication in peer-reviewed journals and presenting research findings at conferences and workshops
PIPELINES: Develop bioinformatics pipelines from existing tools.
PROBLEM SOLVING: Independently identifying solutions and ability to investigate and learn new approaches necessary to adapt existing or new models
IDENTIFY SOLUTIONS: Work independently to identify and implement solutions with some leadership and supervisory activities
TRAINING: Provide training on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend new methods, strategies, and improvements to incorporate into existing models.
WORKFLOWS: Establish and recommend workflows for omics data analysis
FIGURES: Help create publication-quality figures to aid in data presentation
DATA ANALYSES: Conduct statistical data analyses.
OTHER: Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Master¿s degree from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Computer Sciences, or biological sciences with one year of related experience.
OR
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college or university in Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related field with four years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Experience in developing bioinformatics pipelines. Experience with version control management repositories (such as GIT). Experience with Python, Linux command-line, and HPC environment. Familiarity with standard statistical methods. Proficiency in debugging and troubleshooting bioinformatics data analysis pipelines. Proficiency In R packages related to bioinformatics, statistical analyses, and visualization.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to self-manage and manage interdisciplinary relationships effectively. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research team.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Range: $62,300-$79,400 annually.
Pay Band: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
