This training position, under the direct supervision of a Cleveland Clinic Principal Investigator will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. This position is appointed through the Lerner Research Institute. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 5 years.

We have an immediate opening for Postdoctoral Fellows positions in the Dr. Andrei Ivanov Laboratory in the Department of Inflammation and Immunity at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute. Individuals with experience and interests in studying epithelial barriers, intercellular junctions, actomyosin cytoskeleton, gut inflammation, host-pathogens and intestinal fibrosis are encouraged to apply.
A highly motivated candidate will join a productive research team to participate in various projects focusing on the roles of the actin cytoskeleton, myosin motors, and upstream cytoskeleton-targeting signaling cascades in disassembly and reformation of tight and adherens junctions and in the intestinal epithelium during mucosal inflammation/repair and bacterial infection. Additional projects involve investigating the roles of the cytoskeleton in myofibroblast activation and intestinal fibrosis. The Ivanov lab uses large variety of experimental systems including model intestinal epithelial cell monolayers, intestinal organoids, knockout and transgenic animal models and tissue samples from human patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Independent project design with the goal of data generation, analysis, interpretation and manuscript preparation
  • Perform laboratory experiments according to your research project
  • Document, organize and analyze the obtained data
  • Plan the next experimental steps based on the obtained results
  • Prepare presentations and manuscripts based on the obtained data

Education:

  • PhD or MD/PhD required
  • MD with relevant laboratory experience may substitute for PhD

Languages:

  • English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience in a research or academic setting. Graduate student experience meets this requirement.
  • Scientific writing experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $0.01

Maximum hourly: $333,340.26
