Job Description

The Blacklow lab seeks a full-time Senior Research Technician to join our interdisciplinary research team. Duties will include the utilization of molecular biology, cell biology, and structural and biochemical tools to support a research program focused on normal signal transduction and aberrant signaling in cancer. Candidates will utilize techniques such as immunoprecipitation, chromatography, fluorescence imaging, reporter assays, and other powerful experimental approaches to characterize proteins and their interactions. The incumbent should be self-motivated and an independent worker, be able to design experiments both independently and with guidance, and to carry out studies independently. Candidates will also analyze results, as well as design follow-up experiments with guidance. Other responsibilities include the maintenance and organization of lab supplies and reagents. There will be continuous learning opportunities, and the position should also provide exceptional opportunities for growth for those interested in biomedical research. Bachelor's degree required. Experience with molecular cloning, protein expression and purification, and cell culture, a plus.

Primary Duties:

  • Molecular cloning
  • Protein expression and purification
  • Conduct high-throughput assays to measure protein levels and cell growth
  • Perform in vivo genome engineering using CRISPR-Cas9
  • Isolate and analyze RNA from samples to evaluate gene activity
  • Prepare samples for nascent RNA analyses
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records of all samples and experiments

Secondary Duties:

  • Assist with upkeep of laboratory records and equipment as needed
  • Maintain inventory and lab organization
  • Prepare figures and data for manuscripts

Bachelors degree required, preferably in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field.

1-2 years of hands-on postgraduate research experience in a biochemistry or cell biology laboratory preferred. Experience with cell culture, protein expression and standard molecular biology techniques required.Â

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
