Job Description

Facilities and Energy Management is seeking applicants for an information technology support position with responsibilities to support departmental users of university technology systems and services. Being a department that supports the university facilities, there is a wide variety of technologies employed that this position would be called upon for support in conjunction with the SIU Office of Information Technology. Interested candidates should be able to thrive in handling a varying level of task load and changing priorities.
Examples of Duties
•Responsible for providing user support in designated areas, such as desktop support, printer management, computer file management, Teams support, and other designated specialties.
• Supports hardware and software solutions to meet user requirements.
• Supports application and system usage and performs troubleshooting tasks to improve performance.
• Maintains file system archives by managing backup methodologies.
• Maintains and supports assigned systems with documented testing and development of procedures to ensure minimal downtime and loss of productivity and service.
• Support user management of network ID accounts for regular access to SIU e-mail, HRSS, and training sites.
•Other related duties as assigned within the confines of the classification.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing: The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of application materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, your application will move forward for examination/testing in which you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. This score will be emailed to the email address noted on your application. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
