The Administrative Manager Senior plays a critical role in advancing patient progression, ensuring alignment with expected length of stay, improving access, and enhancing overall quality of care. This role leverages clinical expertise, leadership, situational and organizational awareness, and strong critical thinking skills to identify and remove barriers to efficient patient flow. The Administrative Manager Senior collaborates respectfully and effectively with healthcare providers and patients to support patient flow, safety, and operational priorities.

Responsibilities*
The Administrative Manager Senior for the Patient Flow Coordinator Team provides strategic leadership and professional expertise in support of Michigan Medicine Capacity Management. This role leverages the knowledge and skills of interdisciplinary partners and leads one of four Capacity Management teams responsible for coordinating patient admissions, placement, bed management, and throughput activities on a shift-by-shift basis to ensure timely and safe execution of system-wide capacity operations.
The incumbent is cross trained to oversee all teams and their associated workflows to ensure alignment with departmental strategies and goals. The scope of this role spans both daily operational oversight and strategic leadership, including recommending and implementing operational changes for the Capacity Management Department. The Administrative Manager Senior also facilitates real-time and planned resolution of patient placement conflicts across departments and patient care areas to ensure efficient, safe, and timely admissions, transfers, and bed placement.
The incumbent is responsible for all human resource management activities for the PFC team. Duties include interviewing, selecting, and onboarding staff; establishing work schedules and assignments; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and grievances; and administering discipline when appropriate. The role carries authority to hire, terminate, promote, or make personnel recommendations that are given significant weight.
The Administrative Manager Senior manages the administrative and operational objectives of the Capacity Management Department, with measurable impact on operational effectiveness, strategic decision-making, departmental performance, customer service, and achievement of capacity management goals. This positioncontributes to strategic budgeting, personnel cost management, planning, and the development and refinement of workflows and procedures.
The Administrative Manager Senior collaborates closely with UMH leadership and faculty leadership aligned with the designated Capacity Management Team and its workflows. The PFC Administrative Manager also serves as a departmental liaison and resource for workflows involving various multidisciplinary roles.Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., Nursing, Social Work, Respiratory Therapy), healthcare administration, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
Minimum of three years of experience in capacity management workflows
Extensive experience managing staff, services, and operational workflows
Demonstrated, sustained leadership experience with the ability to integrate UMHS services, departments, and functional areas, as well as effectively administer and manage organizational change
