What Your Job Will Be Like:

Do you have a passion for digital communications and content strategy? The Media and Emergency Communications is seeking a strategic, analytical and creative Web Content Specialist to lead corporate-level content strategy for Sandia's external web presence while ensuring content is accessible, accurate and written in plain language.

Sandia's public-facing website is a high-consequence channel. This role provides accountable ownership for how external audiences experience Sandia's story, from priority messages and key user journeys to content quality and compliance. The Web Content Specialist works with Media Relations, internal partners and IT to plan, write, edit and continuously improve Sandia.gov content using a disciplined content lifecycle.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Lead and maintain a corporate-level content strategy for Sandia.gov, including priority pages, key user journeys and content standards
  • Establish and run a content lifecycle program, including review cadence, content ownership, refresh plans and retirement of outdated content
  • Create, rewrite and edit web content for external audiences using plain language and web writing best practices, including scannable structure and clear summaries
  • Conduct regular content audits and recommend improvements based on traffic, stakeholder needs and institutional priorities
  • Ensure web pages, documents, PDFs and multimedia meet Section 508 and web accessibility standards, including remediation and QA checks
  • Provide editorial quality assurance to strengthen clarity, accuracy, consistency and brand alignment
  • Partner with SMEs to translate technical information into accessible public-facing content without losing accuracy
  • Coordinate with IT and web platform owners to publish content, troubleshoot issues and support improvements within approved templates and standards
  • Collaborate with IT and Communications partners on web governance, including policies, procedures, workflows and publishing requirements
  • Use web analytics to prioritize work, evaluate performance and report progress on content health, accessibility and engagement

The selected applicant may be required to complete Emergency Public Information Officer certification and participate in on-call rotations, emergency response and drills and exercises.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$63,800 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, a computing-related field or a degree in a technical field. Or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience writing for a broad public audience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, a computing-related field or a degree in a technical field.
  • Experience with the following:
  • Developing content strategy, managing content lifecycle and improving content operations at scale.
  • Writing and editing for the web and creating accessible web content that meets Section 508 and WCAG, plus familiarity with plain language requirements.
  • Content management systems and publishing workflows, including editorial QA and stakeholder coordination.
  • Using analytics tools to inform decisions and measure results.
  • Daily content production in a high-scrutiny environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record working independently and with multiple levels of management and staff.
  • Familiarity with AP Style and experience applying it to web writing and public-facing communications, including writing and editing for clarity, consistency and accuracy.
  • Excellent command of English grammar and spelling.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping abilities.
  • Cross-disciplinary skills in developing communication and digital products, including the ability to work effectively with SMEs and customers.
  • Knowledge of Sandia¿s programs, missions and technical accomplishments.

About Our Team:

Media Relations and Emergency Communications provides timely, proactive and regular communications to local, trade, national and international media about Sandia¿s mission, scientific and technical achievements, role in our communities and role as a preferred employer. Media relations staff serve as official Sandia spokespersons and provide content for news releases, talking points, Sandia Lab News, Sandia.gov, media, social media and fact sheets. Media relations specialists write communication plans, develop strategies for responding to negative media issues and plan news conferences and media visits. We comply with DOE, NNSA and Sandia direction governing how Sandia disseminates information to the public in an emergency.

Security Clearance:

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
