Job DescriptionThe Department of Dental Hygiene seeks a full-time non-tenure Open Rank Professor and Director of Community Outreach. The Director of Community Outreach provides strategic leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating community-based programs that advance the dental school’s mission of education, service, and oral health equity. This position strengthens partnerships with community stakeholders, expands access to dental care for underserved and rural populations, and integrates service-learning opportunities for students and faculty.
Responsibilities
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP:
Develop and execute a comprehensive community outreach strategy aligned with institutional goals.
Establish measurable objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for outreach initiatives.
Manage digital platforms, supplies and human resources for community events.
Supervise outreach staff, College of Dentistry students, and volunteers.
COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS:
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, public health agencies, nonprofit organizations, and healthcare providers.
Serve as the primary liaison between the dental school and community stakeholders.
Represent the institution at community meetings, public forums, and professional events.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND OVERSIGHT:
Design, implement, and evaluate community-based oral health programs (e.g., mobile clinics, school-based screenings, preventive education workshops).
Coordinate faculty and student participation in service-learning and outreach initiatives.
Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal healthcare regulations.
STUDENT AND FACULTY ENGAGEMENT:
Collaborate with academic leadership to integrate community service into the curriculum.
Facilitate volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
Provide training for students, faculty, and staff.
Track outreach participation, patient outcomes, and program impact.
Prepare annual reports and accreditation documentation.
Utilize data analytics to inform continuous quality improvement.
DATA MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING:
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of experience in community outreach, public health programming, or healthcare administration.
LICENSES: Tennessee licensure in Dentistry or Dental Hygiene.
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:
Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Allied Health, Health Education, or related field.
Experience in dental education or academic health centers.
Knowledge of oral health disparities and public health policy.
Proficient with GivePulse application.
Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and sustain collaborative partnerships.
Data analysis and program evaluation skills.
