As a Research Veterinary Technician II, you will monitor and care for the health and well-being of research animals while supporting veterinary procedures, surgical services, and training initiatives within Veterinary Services. In this role, you will contribute to foundational pre-clinical research that advances scientific discoveries and helps improve patient care worldwide.
A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (flexible start/end times) with on-call requirements, and one weekend shift every six weeks.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform all duties of Research VT I.
Train animal husbandry, veterinary services and research personnel to perform proper animal handling, evaluations and techniques.
May perform the duties of an Animal Surgery Technician and assist Veterinarians and investigators by performing special surgical, medical or experimental techniques or procedures.
Assist the Veterinarians with the Sentinel Health Monitoring Program and work with minimal supervision on Veterinary Services programs and projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate's degree in a Veterinary Technician program
Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (VT) in state in which employed
Two years of experience with demonstrated competence as a licensed Veterinary Technician
Ability to understand and follow detailed scientific or medical instructions given by investigators and/or veterinarians
Computer literacy, good interpersonal skills to work and communicate with all levels of department and research personnel
Flexibility to ensure all animal care responsibilities are completed, supporting a 7-day-per-week, 365-day-per-year operation that may include weekends and holidays
Physical Requirements:
Ability to transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.
Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.
May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $17.25
Maximum hourly: $26.31
