Job Description
Position Details:This full-time position is on-campus and in-person. This is a 12-month non-tenure-track faculty position equivalent to an Instructor.
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in the Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, TX invites applicants for an Instructor and Research Instrument Engineer position in Chemistry. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. and must possess a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates whose previous research included substantial hands-on experience with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and who have previous experience teaching a General Chemistry curriculum closely related to that at TCU.
The successful candidate will be expected to combine teaching in the General Chemistry sequence, teaching and training and work in research instrumentation with emphasis on materials characterization, and maintenance of TEM, SEM, and XRD instrumentation resources in the Davis College of Science & Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to teach up to 12 credit-hours per semester of Chemistry coursework, exemplified by but not limited to General Chemistry for Engineers and Chemical Instrumentation. Specific courses will vary depending on semester, but the candidate should be prepared to teach one large-enrollment course and one small-to-medium enrollment course or four small-to-medium-enrollment courses each semester. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining the instruments, coordinating service contracts and repairs, and preparing and delivering training materials, working with other relevant faculty, staff, and students.
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated potential to leverage regional professional networks into industry connections, including but not limited to providing paid materials characterization services to regional companies.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is the oldest PhD-granting chemistry program in north Texas and is at the forefront of TCU’s increased research activity. The department’s ten tenured faculty and two instructors maintain a robust PhD program and an extensive program of undergraduate research, while serving over 1000 undergraduates annually in introductory and advanced coursework. Department research strengths include biochemistry and organic chemistry related to health and disease, energy and materials chemistry, and physical & computational chemistry. The department maintains a “teacher-scholar model” in which undergraduates are heavily involved in research and graduate students & postdocs develop skills as research mentors and team leaders.

The Louise Dilworth Davis College of Science & Engineering encompasses 9 departments (Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental and Geological Sciences, Mathematics, Nutritional Sciences, Physics & Astronomy, and Psychology) as well as the Ranch Management Program, which offers both an undergraduate degree and a one-year certificate program. Davis College is also home to the Pre-Health Professions Institute, the Karyn Purvis Institute for Child Development, the Institute of Behavioral Research, the Institute for Environmental Studies, Monnig Meteorite Gallery, and the Institute for Ranch Management. Davis College is the second largest at TCU in terms of both undergraduate enrollment and number of majors.
